1368 complimentary health professional packs including an introduction to the Week, examples of resources that could be ordered and a sample press release, were distributed at the end of 2007 throughout the whole of the UK. Packs were sent to health professionals (including dietitians, nutritionists and health promotion units) who work in hospitals, GP surgeries, health charities, educational institutions, the food industry and government organisations. A further 2001 GP surgeries also received posters and leaflets to display in their surgery.

We had fantastic support from health professionals with over 250 events being held throughout the country. Below are some examples of supporting events that took place around the country and how health professionals utilised the resources during the Week:

“Each year I put up a display in 2 medical centres and write an article for the local evening newspaper. The article is linked to the CASH website for further practical ideas aimed at helping mums choose a ‘healthier lunchbox’….. This year I focused the article on lunchbox choices which is where children can have quite an impact on their day’s salt consumption. These days manufacturers have a massive market in foods designed for children’s lunchboxes and while some are good choices, there still remains a lot of high salt ‘designer’ items.
