Salt Awareness

How to be involved

We would like your support in order to help save 35,000 unnecessary deaths per year from heart attacks and strokes attributed to high salt intake. We hope that you will be able to get involved in the week by putting on your own display and or event to increase the awareness surrounding salt. We welcome anyone to put on an event of their own - in the past our main supporters have been nutritionists, dieticians, food retailers, pharmacists, nurses and other health workers but if you fall out of these categories but would like to be involved we would be delighted to hear from you.

Each year we hold a National Salt Awareness Reception at the House of Commons - each day carries a general theme. In 2006 we are expanded this to a National Awareness Week held at the beginning of February. Past events have had around 100 attendees including representatives from the major supermarkets, chefs, health professionals, media, government bodies and other health charities.

If you would like to support National Salt Awareness Week then please contact CASH to receive a complimentary pack of resources to get you started. This will include some leaflets, a poster and a few other materials to use in a display. The packs for the next event will be available from around November 2007, but be quick as we will only have a limited number of packs available. Further resources can then be ordered by filling out a resources list and sending your request to cash@sgul.ac.uk .
