CASH are proud to work with a number of charities as part of Salt Awareness Week 2013 highlighting the risks involved with consuming a diet high in salt, and the importance of looking at labels to ensure high salt foods are avoided.

 Blood Pressure UK
"Eating too much salt is a major factor in the development of high blood pressure, the main cause of strokes and heart disease, and a condition which affects one in three of us in the UK. Many people are simply still not aware of how much salt they eat or that 'low salt' doesn't have to mean 'low taste. As we all enjoy eating out, we want to help everyone understand that asking for ‘less salt please!’ can have a positive effect on their blood pressure, which is why Blood Pressure UK is proud to support National Salt Awareness Week 2013"

Stroke Association  
"The Stroke Association fully supports National Salt Awareness Week and the wider work of CASH aimed at highlighting the harmful effect high salt intake can have on our health. Eating too much salt can lead to high blood pressure which is the single biggest risk factor for stroke. Monitoring your salt intake and paying close attention to the salt content in foods is absolutely essential, especially in products like ready meals and other processed foods which may not taste salty, but actually contain a significant amount of salt"

150,000 people have a stroke every year in the UK but in many cases a stroke can be prevented, and by making a few simple lifestyle changes you can significantly reduce your risk. For example, eating a healthy balanced diet low in saturated fat and salt, exercising regularly and getting your blood pressure checked can all go a long way to keeping your stroke risk down"

Alzheimer's Society UK
"Alzheimer's Society is pleased to support salt awareness week. Too much salt in the diet can increase blood pressure and increase the risk of developing dementia in later life”

National Obesity Forum
"The Men’s Health Forum supports Salt Awareness Week because men feel that so much information about diet is not written for them. We work to help improve health for men and boys including running the ManMOT.co.uk service and publishing an award-winning range of health booklets for men"

Diabetes UK
"Diabetes UK is pleased to support National Salt Awareness Week 2013. Consuming more than 6g of salt a day can raise blood pressure which can lead to stroke and heart disease. People with diabetes are already at an increased risk of developing these conditions as a complication of their diabetes, so it is especially important that people living with diabetes and those at risk of Type 2 diabetes understand this and reduce their salt intake"

Ménière's Society
"Ménière's disease is a long term progressive condition affecting the balance and hearing parts of the inner ear. Symptoms are acute attacks of vertigo (severe dizziness), fluctuating tinnitus, increasing deafness and a feeling of pressure in the ear. Other vestibular disorders, such as labyrinthitis and BPPV have similar debilitating symptoms of dizziness for sufferers.
Salt reduction is widely recommended for many people with Ménière's disease/vertigo, as reducing salt intake is thought to help reduce the frequency and severity of the dizziness"

British Dietetic Association
"The British Dietetic Association, founded in 1936, is the professional association for registered dietitians in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is the nation’s largest organisation of food and nutrition professionals with approximately 7,000 members.  The BDA is also an active trade union.  Registered dietitians are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems at an individual and wider public health level. Uniquely, dietitians use the most up to date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, which they translate into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices. Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be statutorily regulated, and governed by an ethical code, to ensure that they always work to the highest standard. Dietitians work in the NHS, private practice, industry, education, research, sport, media, public relations, publishing, Non Government"

National Osteoporosis Society
"Reducing salt is recommended for improvements in general health with benefits for the heart and blood pressure, but it could also have benefits for bone health too. A high intake of salt in the diet causes an increase in the amount of calcium lost in urine. The effects of salt on blood pressure may also be responsible for speeding up the body's loss of calcium. As calcium is vital for building bones, anything which increases its loss from our body could impact on bone strength"
