Salt content reduced in UK ready meals
23 November 2007
The average salt level of ready meals on sale in UK supermarkets has reduced by 45% over the last four years.
We surveyed 101 of the UK 's favourite supermarket ready meals (Chicken tikka masala, sweet and sour chicken, cottage pie, Thai green chicken curry and spaghetti bolognese) and found that the salt levels have been reduced by nearly a half since 2003.
However, some ready meals still contain relatively high levels of salt, such as Asda and Waitrose's chicken tikka masala and The Co-Operative Group's Thai green chicken curry and should be avoided until they are reduced.

Ready meals are continually being reformulated, and our survey does not cover all products, so please do continue to check your favourite sandwich's label and if it's not below 2.0g of salt per portion do write to the company and ask them to reduce their salt.
Please note we have not compared ready meals for calories, fat or sugar content.
