Brits still don't know why they should cut the salt
1st February 2010 (Salt Awareness Week 2010)
- People don’t know that eating less salt reduces the risk of stroke and heart failure, and are even less people are aware salt is linked to stomach cancer, osteoporosis and kidney disease.
- The people most at risk of these conditions appear to know the least
A new survey from Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) shows that many people know that salt can damage their health but they do not know how. Two thirds of us are aware that salt is linked to high blood pressure, but only one third were able to make the link to stroke, and even less made the link with osteoporosis, stomach cancer and kidney disease.
Salt Awareness Week 2010 is letting people know that eating too much salt may lead to a large number of health conditions, and will show that we are all putting our health at risk if we don't cut it down. More that 500 events are being held around the country in schools, hospitals and local councils, to help raise awareness of the dangers of too much salt.
