Foods can be surprisingly high in salt, fat, saturated fats and sugar, but many people struggle to understand nutrition labels on food packaging. FoodSwitch is a revolutionary, award-winning, free smartphone app that helps you make healthier food choices.
Consensus Action on Salt & Health (CASH), in collaboration the George Institute of Global Health (TGI), the Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Research, The British Heart Foundation Health Promotion Research Group and the Nuffield Department of Population Health & Nuffield Department of Primary Care, University of Oxford have brought to you a free and simple to use app for smartphones to help you find out what’s in the food you’re eating, so you can make simple switches to healthier options. FoodSwitch allows you for the first time to scan the barcodes of your food and drinks products and instantly see whether they are high (red), medium (amber) or low (green) in fat, saturates, sugars and salt per 100g.
It also searches the database for similar but healthier alternative products, making it easier than ever to switch to healthier food choices.
SaltSwitch, a new function of FoodSwitch, enables consumers to easily chose healthier choices by suggesting less salty products. This is great for those that are looking to reduce your salt intake, whether for a particular health reason e.g. high blood pressure, or to maintain a healthy diet.
Use FoodSwitch to see what’s in your shopping basket, and make better food choices when shopping for you and your family. FoodSwitch is available as a free, UK-only download from iTunes and Google Play.
