It is well known among the adult population that a high salt intake is associated with high blood pressure, and that people with high blood pressure are three times more likely to develop heart disease and strokes. There is now evidence to show that a high salt intake in children also influences blood pressure and may predispose an individual to the development of a number of diseases including: high blood pressure, osteoporosis, respiratory illness, stomach cancer and obesity.
