Free From survey exposes huge differences in salt content of products

• Research reveals that supermarket own brand 'free from' products can contain higher levels of salt compared to their standard equivalents.
• One free from product contained as much as six times the amount of salt per 100g compared to its standard equivalent.
New research carried out by Consensus Action on Salt and Health ( CASH ), has found higher levels of salt in supermarket own brand 'free from' products compared to the standard equivalents. Research was carried out at the five major retailers (ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Morrisons) between July and September 2009.
