Pasta Sauce survey reveals huge variations between brands
Following this release in November 2009, Jamie Oliver reduced the salt in his pasta sauce from 5.3g to 0.9g, an incredible 80% reduction! Well done Jamie!

- Research reveals that branded pasta sauces can contain higher levels of salt compared to supermarket own branded sauces.
- A 30 fold difference between the highest salt tomato based pasta sauce and the lowest salt version was found
- One tomato based pasta sauce contained as much salt as 10 packets of crisps in just one portion.
New research carried out by Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH), has found huge variations in the salt content of pasta sauces and has found higher levels of salt in supermarket own brand sauces compared to branded popular branded versions. Research was carried out at the eight major retailers (ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Somerfield and the Co-operative) in October 2009. Tomato based sauce without cheese or meat; green pesto sauces and Carbonara sauces were looked at.
