Salt in UK ready meals 45% lower than four years ago

. 84% of ready meals have already reached the Food Standards Agency's 2010 targets for salt content
. Some ready meals still contain relatively high levels of salt
7% contained 3g or more per serving
Some 'healthy' and 'economy' products contained more that the retailers 'standard' product
New research published today (November 23rd 2007) by Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) reveals that the average salt level of ready meals on sale in UK supermarkets has reduced by 45% over the last four years. The average salt content of 101 surveyed ready meals from eight retailers was 1.8g salt per serving.

Ready meals are continually being reformulated so please do continue to check your favourite ready meal's label and if it's not below 2.0g of salt per portion do write to the company and ask them to reduce their salt.
