Public opinion surveys help us to monitor the knowledge and understanding of the general public about the dangers of having too much salt. They allow us to find out the attitudes of certain groups towards making healthy choices and enable us to see if our message is reaching the public.
The latest public opinion survey, carried out by YouGov, highlighted that few people are worried about suffering from heart disease (11%) or stroke (5%), despite them being two of the biggest killers in the UK and the leading health conditions caused by a high salt diet. The results also showed that only 15% of men could correctly identify 6g as the recommendation for salt, with 10% of men believing the recommendation to be more than 10g.
